Once players log into their Switch for the first time and create a user account, their profile will appear on the top-left of the main home screen. Pressing this will take users to their profile page, where they can do a number of things involving friends. There are options on the side to check the Friend List, check online play invites, friend suggestions, and, most importantly, a section to add friends.

How to Add Friends with a Friend Code
If players look at their own profile, their Friend Code will appear beside their profile picture. It’s a 12-digit number, and this is what users will need if they want a friend to add them on their Switch. To add a friend with their Friend Code, click on Add Friend, and then Search with Friend Code. The following screen will ask players to put in the friend code of the person they’re looking for. Once the code is set, the friend request will be sent to that player and they need to accept it before the two friends can make a confirmed connection.
In this same menu for adding friends, players can also find people by searching for local Switch users that are in the same room or by searching for users previously played with. This means that if a person played a few online matches in a game like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the players in that group will show up here to add as a friend.
The Friend List
Once a player has accepted someone’s friend request, the user should appear on the friend list. This list will have all online and offline Switch friends, showing who’s playing what and the last time they were online. By clicking on a person’s profile, they can see their play activity, and even set them as a Best Friend, which makes it so that their profile will appear ner the top of the friend list.
