Has Dusty Rhodes checked on his boys yet?
Cody Rhodes’ transformation in Stardust could have been disastrous. It could have easily been an edition in the comic relief segments. But his efforts are paying off. It has since become a very engaging gimmick making Goldust seem like the ‘normal one’ of the two.
Every gimmick that the young Rhodes has been a part of has been performed aptly by the 29 year old. But this just takes the cake. It not only stands out but it seems like he has embraced it like no other gimmick he’s had to endure. The tag team of the Rhodes Brothers has been a hit ever since it was formed. The storyline that began it was phenomenal. Stephanie McMahon’s performances as a heel were top notch, Dusty Rhodes’ involvement created a good dynamic. He’s still got it. Him breaking kayfabe was clearly a highlight of the feud. Their match against Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns at Battleground was the best match that the Pay Per View could boast of that year. The match that happened on Raw where they beat the Shield for the tag titles has to be the greatest moment of their history as a team. It was in the main event of Raw and it was against the best tag team that has graced WWE programming in recent years.
Lull before the Storm
Since then, there came a phase when they had no particular storylines to be involved with, no particular rivalries to get engaged in. Weren’t Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler Jim Ross’ pick for future stars? Both of them had to go through many uneventful months. While Ziggler had caught the attention of the fans and still remains one of the most popular superstars, Rhodes could not boast of the same fanbase. Sure, he had fans but they weren’t as loud and in as much quantity as that of the present Intercontinental Champion.
Until Stardust came along.
Yes, he hasn’t reached that level of fandom but he is interesting enough to be there in sometime. Now that he has a great character, all he needs is a great storyline.
The Ultimate. Selling. Point.
His backstage interviews or segments are ones that shall stand the test of time. Atleast, I think they should. They get the desired reaction. They are fun to watch. It makes Goldust look less bizarre but they make bizarre look fantastic. Bizarre is the new cool.
Right now, they seem like the next in line for the tag titles and their team seems to be deserving enough to have another title reign. I am not sure if they can make the tag division more relevant as making something more relevant has to have some Creative support as well. But their characters are intriguing enough to make the tag titles something worth fighting for and the tag matches something worth watching.
AND he wears red contacts. Not only does he has his face painted, embraced himself with a body hugging suit, he also wears red contacts. That’s some dedication towards your character.
To his credit, Goldust proves to be a very enthusiastic brother and tag team partner. The ‘stars’ in his eyes the moment his brother makes an entrance backstage is hilarious. He enjoys seeing his brother enjoy the spotlight.
Cody Rhodes, to his major credit, is as amazing as a shooting star, atleast, it looks like he’s turning out to be like that.
