Spotify Splits Its Home Experience
Spotify has updated its platform with split Home feeds—one for music and another for podcasts and shows. It announced the change in a Spotify blog post on August 9, 2022, which read:
The feature makes it so that you don’t have to use Spotify sites to discover new music and playlists. Instead, you can do that from the app’s Home feed.
At launch, this feature is only available on the Android mobile app and will be rolled out to the iOS app in the future. Since the split Home feeds are only available on mobile apps, now is a good time to improve your Spotify experience on mobile.
With Spotify’s Home Feeds, It’s Easier to Find Content You Love
Spotify has made it much simpler to discover new music and keep up with your favorite podcast shows. The Home page shows you tabs for both the Music and Podcasts & Shows feeds. You’ll have to choose the feed you want to open.
The Music feed emphasizes discovery by showing you songs, albums, and playlist recommendations based on what you like. You can start listening right from where you are and add music you enjoy to your favorites. You can also share it with friends, so they can do the same.
The Podcasts & Shows feed also shows you personalized recommendations. It helps you stay up-to-date by showing you new episodes from the shows you’re listening to. Browse and choose episodes to watch easily, thanks to episode descriptions.
By pressing play, you’ll be able to start listening to a show within the feed. If you don’t like it, you can simply stop playing it and continue browsing for more.
It eliminates the hassle of opening and closing different windows, making your experience more seamless. And if you enjoy the first few moments of an episode but want to listen to it later, you can save it to Your Episodes by tapping the plus icon.
In the meantime, you can share an interesting soundbite from that episode with someone who’ll appreciate it. Of course, you don’t have to rely on Spotify’s Home feed; there are more ways to find, follow, and download podcasts on Spotify.
Spotify Is Spoiling Its Subscribers
While this new design is a welcomed update, Spotify’s Home page update is the latest of the platform’s additions. In June 2022, Spotify officially announced its investment in Audiobooks. While the platform already had audiobooks, the announcement cemented its plans to add them as a content category alongside music and podcasts.
Following that, Spotify acquired Heardle in July 2022. After you finish playing, the game allows you to listen to the song of the day using Spotify’s web app. This helps you discover new music or reminisce on old favorites. You can add that song to your library, continue to play more tracks, and find new ones to enjoy.
