The Ultra Beasts are far from the most ignored part of the franchise, and they’re even being added to Pokemon GO as it expands to include the Alolan Pokedex. Yet, even though they were still part of generation eight in a small way, the Ultra Beasts may make a rather big comeback in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, with possibly even more new extraterrestrial critters to follow.

The Evidence Towards Ultra Beasts in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
The biggest piece of evidence that fans have toward the idea that the Ultra Beasts are going to play a big part in Scarlet and Violet is one of the Pokedex completion rewards. Once players have caught every creature in the Paldean Pokedex, they’ll receive a Beast Ball for their trouble. While the Beast Ball can be used to catch any Pokemon fans desire, it has a lower catch rate than other Poke Balls. The Beast Ball specifically performs better against the Ultra Beasts. This means that for the ball to be in the game, it’s most likely so that fans can catch one of the alien creatures.
There’s a far bigger hint hidden within the pages of the Violet (or Scarlet) Book, as well. One section features a strange creature only called a “disk Pokemon.” It was said to be covered in hexagons as it shined “brighter than gemstone.” In the accompanying illustration, it was round and had a crown on its head. Its design matches rather well to the confusing motif seen with the other Ultra Beasts, and the artwork to go with it depicts stars and planets around it. There’s a very strong chance that this Pokemon may be an Ultra Beast linked to Terastallization.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Where the Ultra Beasts Could Come Into Play
Fans have been speculating that there’s a single Pokemon responsible for the Terastal phenomenon stemming from the fact that each Tera Gem features a set of eyes upon it. It also doesn’t help that the history of the Great Crater of Paldea seems to imply that something happened to cause the crater to form, and the Tera crystals in Area Zero formed sometime after. It could be that the “Disk Pokemon” is an Ultra Beast that had fallen to Paldea from an Ultra Wormhole.
However, there’s another theory going around regarding the “Disk Pokemon” that could also explain the Ultra Beasts’ involvement on Paldea as well. Currently, players are speculating that the “time machine” seen at the end of the game is instead a machine making imaginary creatures real, which gets its power from both the Scarlet (or Violet) Book and this mysterious Terastallization Pokemon. It could create imaginary replicas of the Ultra Beasts to protect itself in Area Zero.
Considering both of these potential scenarios expand upon the late-game storyline in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the best option for fans to finally meet the Ultra Beasts, real or fake, would be if it was part of the game’s DLC. The extra content for generation nine has been all but confirmed to be released similarly to Pokemon Sword and Shield’s expansion pass thanks to what reliable leaks have said.
However, even if there’s plenty of evidence to say that fans can expect Ultra Beasts to return in additional content updates for Scarlet and Violet, there’s still a chance for these theories to be proven wrong as nothing’s been officially confirmed yet. Luckily, fans shouldn’t have much longer to wait, as there’s a strong chance that Scarlet and Violet’s DLC will be revealed as soon as January.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is available now on Nintendo Switch.
