After promising fans that a fix was in the works to prevent users from spoofing their GPS in Pokemon GO, keen players from the reddit thread TheSilphRoad, specifically user apemyteddy, have made note of a recent string of bans for anyone that has jumped around the map to the location of a rare Pokemon.
The previous means of getting around this meant that users would spot the location of a rare mon, spoof the GPS to jump over to the locale, engage with the beast, and then jump back to their location before capturing it. People utilizing this tactic now, however, have found themselves on the receiving end of a ban. Evidently, this is great news for those that have been scratching their heads wondering how it is so many Gym leaders have managed to secure a Tyranitar already, and it should help level the playing field in that regard.
With that said, there is still a lot of “sniping” going on in regards to Pokemon Gyms in Pokemon GO, which will hopefully be addressed by Niantic in the near future. Even then, this is a great first step for the app that should help restore a little more balance to the overall user experience.
Pokemon GO is currently available on iOS and Android devices.
